Director of Marketing – B2B

Ascend is looking for a passionate, driven and highly collaborative B2B Director of Marketing to join our mission to become the leader in online charitable fundraising solutions. With strong Canadian success behind us this role will focus heavily on our expansion into the U.S. market. As our Director of Marketing you will report into the CEO but will work in partnership with our world-class Fractional CMO to lead the build out of the core/foundational marketing assets, practices and programs that will enable Ascend to take that next leap. With little to no marketing practice or team in place today there’s lots of work to do. From building out our website, SEO, content and thought leadership to marketing analytics and automation – you’ll be empowered to put these core pieces together. You’re eager to get your hands dirty in all of this but to also build out your team once you get your bearings and have a line of sight on what needs to get done. We’ve got your back on reinforcements and a budget to ensure you’ll have what you need to succeed.

Desired Skills and Experience:
This is an extremely dynamic and hands-on job that spans all core areas of marketing. You will be accountable for driving new customer acquisition while establishing Ascend as a dominant player in an emerging category. You wouldn’t have it any other way. You have been a Director of Marketing at a fast-growing tech company for at least 2-3 years. Along the way you have demonstrated expertise in:

  • Website Build and Optimization: You can confidently lead the end-to-end process, including the co-ordination of developers and designer, of building and designing a website that represents our brand, speaks to our core audience and capabilities and drives conversions. You also relentlessly pursue its continual optimization and evolution to maximize performance.

  • SEO, Content and Social: You don’t need to be an actual expert at all of SEO, Content and Social but you absolutely need to be a big believer in these as core tenants to a marketing program and have the demonstrated ability to pull them all together – with SEO and content definitely being in your wheelhouse. You’ll no doubt need some resources to pull all this off, but you’ve figured out how to do it in the past with great results and you’d like nothing more than to do it again. You also understand the importance that content plays in establishing a brand as a thought leader having played a key role in establishing a brand as a thought leader in your past.

  • Tracking, Reporting and Marketing Automation: At your core you know that setting up the right data systems and marketing automation tools in a B2B environment will be key to learning and moving faster. We are not talking GA here; you know your way around tools like Segment or Amplitude that get you user level data and reporting as well as having a favourite marketing automation (i.e. HubSpot). You’ve implemented these more than once before and marketing stacks and marketing performance data is second nature to you.

  • Team Building: You’ve demonstrated that you’re smart enough to know when you need to hire or contract smarter people around you to get things done and at the level you demand. You know how to build and lead winning teams that not only deliver, but love working together and collaborating with other departments.

  • Driving Results: You believe that, at the end of the day, marketing is about results. Leads may help get us there, but you know that a lead doesn’t drive ROI, closed business does and you use that belief to guide your efforts and energy every day.
