25 Nov Director of Marketing – B2B
Are you a B2B marketing leader that loves to get in at the ground level? Have you secretly been looking to run marketing for a brand with a wide-open lane to not only define its category but own it? If you love building, are driven by data and customer insights and enjoy collaborating with colleagues in every department, then read on.
Ascend is looking for a passionate, driven and highly collaborative B2B Director of Marketing to join our mission to become the leader in online charitable fundraising solutions. With strong Canadian success behind us this role will focus heavily on our expansion into the U.S. market. We continue to hit new monthly records with our brilliant sales and outbound team so if you enjoy being part of a super-collaborative and world class team that gets better and smarter every week, we want to talk to you.
As our Director of Marketing you will report into the CEO but will work in partnership with our world-class Fractional CMO to lead the build out of the core/foundational marketing assets, practices and programs that will enable Ascend to take that next leap. With little to no marketing practice or team in place today there’s lots of work to do. From building out our website, SEO, content and thought leadership to marketing analytics and automation – you’ll be empowered to put these core pieces together. You’re eager to get your hands dirty in all of this but to also build out your team once you get your bearings and have a line of sight on what needs to get done. We’ve got your back on reinforcements and a budget to ensure you’ll have what you need to succeed.
Desired Skills and Experience:
This is an extremely dynamic and hands-on job that spans all core areas of marketing. You will be accountable for driving new customer acquisition while establishing Ascend as a dominant player in an emerging category. You wouldn’t have it any other way. You have been a Director of Marketing at a fast-growing tech company for at least 2-3 years. Along the way you have demonstrated expertise in:
Website Build and Optimization: You can confidently lead the end-to-end process, including the co-ordination of developers and designer, of building and designing a website that represents our brand, speaks to our core audience and capabilities and drives conversions. You also relentlessly pursue its continual optimization and evolution to maximize performance.
SEO, Content and Social: You don’t need to be an actual expert at all of SEO, Content and Social but you absolutely need to be a big believer in these as core tenants to a marketing program and have the demonstrated ability to pull them all together – with SEO and content definitely being in your wheelhouse. You’ll no doubt need some resources to pull all this off, but you’ve figured out how to do it in the past with great results and you’d like nothing more than to do it again. You also understand the importance that content plays in establishing a brand as a thought leader having played a key role in establishing a brand as a thought leader in your past.
Tracking, Reporting and Marketing Automation: At your core you know that setting up the right data systems and marketing automation tools in a B2B environment will be key to learning and moving faster. We are not talking GA here; you know your way around tools like Segment or Amplitude that get you user level data and reporting as well as having a favourite marketing automation (i.e. HubSpot). You’ve implemented these more than once before and marketing stacks and marketing performance data is second nature to you.
Team Building: You’ve demonstrated that you’re smart enough to know when you need to hire or contract smarter people around you to get things done and at the level you demand. You know how to build and lead winning teams that not only deliver, but love working together and collaborating with other departments.
Driving Results: You believe that, at the end of the day, marketing is about results. Leads may help get us there, but you know that a lead doesn’t drive ROI, closed business does and you use that belief to guide your efforts and energy every day.
What we’d like to see in our ideal candidate:
You thrive equally in strategy and execution. You are inventive and resourceful and can turn your ideas quickly into implementations. We move fast, but we are smart about it.
You are entrepreneurial at heart, but methodical in your approach
You love to learn – about your craft and your own personal development as a marketing leader
You get a rush when you’re super busy and getting a lot done. You get a super rush when your efforts land in a win.
You would rather just try a new idea than spend days talking about it.
You believe in collaboration and enjoy adding value and getting value by engaging with every department that touches the customer experience.
You will name your resume prior to submitting in the following format: Name.LastName.Green
You’re probably your own toughest critic and have an internal drive to succeed and help others do the same. You never want to be the weak link, but the strongest.
You are passionate about helping charitable organizations raise money and increase their impact in their communities
Why work at Ascend? :
Founded in 2008 as “Gaming Nation” our online gaming/lottery fundraising platform has been used by some of the world’s most notable sports franchises and their partners including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, CFL, PGA, NCAA and NASCAR.
Today, as Ascend Fundraising Solutions our platform is now also being used by some of the world’s most notable non-profit organizations such as the Special Olympics and United Way. We are disrupting the fundraising model by helping charitable organizations bring their fundraising online, raise recurring donations, build on their donor datasets, build deeper engagement from their donor databases and achieve record donor revenues.
Our world record setting 50:50 draw for the Edmonton Oilers Foundation generated over $14 million in donations in one day! It also broke our platform – but we’re stronger for it and can take that hit at any time now.
We’ve helped over 450 charitable organizations raise over $700 million on our platform to date, but with online gaming/lottery-based fundraising still a relatively unknown category in the U.S. we’re only just getting started.
Our commitment to you:
Organizational support and a servant leadership culture focused on helping you develop and progress as a marketing leader
A team that is intellectually curious, dedicated, and has a willingness to get the job done
Opportunity to get in at the ground level and have a significant direct impact to the business in the short and long term
Help grow a company that helps charities and NPOs fund their charitable causes
Beautiful, downtown Toronto office with lake views and close proximity to transit
Work remotely for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19.
