Fundraiser supports more than 4,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities

MISSION, Kan. – Special Olympics Kansas announced the launch of a new sweepstakes program Monday to help raise funds for programs assisting individuals with intellectual disabilities in Kansas.

The sweepstakes offers entrants a chance to win a VIP NFL experience at the Kansas City Chiefs game on December 15 against the Denver Broncos.

The prize includes tickets, a VIP tailgate experience, travel and accommodations, plus a $300 voucher to the NFL Fan shop.

Secondary prizes include a chance to win Bose headphones or gift certificates to the NFL Shop or Amazon. In all there are 10 chances for winners.

The sweepstakes is operated by Ascend Fundraising Solutions.

“We are beyond excited to launch this program that will give some Chiefs or Broncos fans the experience of a lifetime while helping our Special Olympics Kansas athletes reach their dreams as well,” said Heather Waters, Special Olympics Kansas spokesperson. “We are pleased to partner with the Ascend team to make this campaign a reality.”

The campaign will run through Giving Tuesday on December 3.

“It is our honor to partner with Special Olympics Kansas,” said Daniel Lewis, CEO at Ascend Fundraising Solutions. “This is an exciting opportunity for someone to win a great prize while supporting an organization that plays a critical role in the community.”

Individuals can make a donation at www.sosweeps.com to be entered in the sweepstakes.

Donations are not necessary to enter, but are most welcome to help achieve the goal of raising funds to assist Special Olympics Kansas and its mission to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports competitions, health and nutrition programs and leadership development. Intellectual disability (or ID) is a term used when a person has certain limitations in cognitive functioning and skills, including communication, social and self-care skills. These limitations can cause a child to develop and learn more slowly or differently than a typically developing child. Intellectual disability can happen any time before a child turns 18 years old, even before birth. Intellectual disability is the most common developmental disability. According to the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, an individual has intellectual disability if he or she meets three criteria: IQ is below 70-75; there are significant limitations in two or more adaptive areas (skills that are needed to live, work, and play in the community, such as communication or self-care); and the condition manifests itself before the age of 18.

Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports competitions, health and nutrition programs and leadership development. SOKS is a non-profit organization supported almost entirely by corporate and individual gifts, and events. The generosity of Kansas organizations, individuals and statewide businesses enable the program to continue.
